Overview

Under the direction of the Program Supervisor and the Chef, the Cleaner/Kitchen Aide/Floater provides temporary classroom assistance, cleans the center during operating hours and provides kitchen assistance as needed.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides temporary relief to early learning staff during break times.
  • Assists with kitchen responsibilities as directed by the Chef.
  • Assists with children on field trips.
  • Shares parent comments and child information with Teacher and Chef to help build a team relationship.
  • Washes children's equipment and toys during early learning center hours.
  • Empties diaper and trash cans during early learning center hours.
  • Attends staff training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Treats all children, parents and co-workers with dignity and respect.
  • Shares classroom and center housekeeping responsibilities, including assistance in meal and snack preparation and clean-up.
  • Performs other tasks as directed by the Program Supervisor or Chef.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Serv-Safe certificate.
  • Two to three years of culinary experience.
  • Experience assisting with food preparation.
  • Experience working in a support role in the food-services arena.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word.
  • Understanding of developmentally appropriate curriculum to meet the growth and educational needs of children.
  • Ability to work well with a diverse population of children, families, staff and volunteers.
  • Thorough knowledge of Washington State Child Care Licensing requirements.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.
